Newsletter--Week of 1/11

News from 3P
Week of: January 11, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: We are beginning a new novel study this week! Students will be switching classes to read The Hundred Dresses. Throughout the unit, we will be focusing on character traits and theme. **Students should be reading at least 20 minutes for homework every night!

Grammar: We will continue to learn about singular and plural possessive nouns.

Writing: This week in writing, we will focus on informational text. Students will be writing a How-To paper on a topic of their choosing.

Science: We will be reviewing the following vocabulary: star, axis and rotation vs. revolution. We will also be talking about the seasons and where the Earth faces during each season. We will also be discussing Moon phases.

Math: This week we will continue with fractions. Students will be learning how to break apart groups in equal fractions. We will also continue to work on reading and writing fractions. Third graders will also begin working on multi-step word problems. We will begin this as a whole class this week.  This process involves students explaining an answer to a story problem and the process of HOW they came to that answer.

Jamboree Donations: Our classroom theme basket this year is Ice Cream Shop. If you are able to donate any sort of ice cream related items (scoop, cones, sprinkles, toppings, bowls, giftcards, etc…) that would be great!! J
