Newsletter--Week of 2/29

Week of: February 29, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: Students will be choosing a famous inventor and writing and informational paper about the person, what CAUSED them to create their invention and the EFFECT it had on society. **Students should be reading at least 25 minutes for homework every night!

Grammar: We will be reviewing conventions and good third grade sentences. Students will also be incorporating these sentences into their inventor informational writing.

Writing: This week in writing, we will be taking the information we gathered on an inventor and writing an informational paper about their life.  

Science: This week we will be jumping into the study of weather. We will focus on tools that are used for weather and we will also be assigning weather groups to do in-school projects on specific storms.

Math: We started our time unit last week! This week we will begin to review time to the hour, 15 min, 10 min and 5 minute increments.

Newsletter--Week of 2/22

News from 3P
Week of: February 22, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: Our focus this week will continue to be cause and effect. We will be interviewing a classmate about their lives! Students will then use this information for a writing project. **Students should be reading at least 20 minutes for homework every night!

Grammar: We will finish up dictionary skills by making our own dictionary entry and compiling it into a 3P dictionary.

Writing: This week in writing, we will be taking the information we gather from a classmate and writing an informational paper about their life.  

Science: This week we will be concluding our talk about the water cycle! Towards the end of the week, we will be testing! Watch for the study guide a review materials to come home today.

Math: This week we will review all types of graphs! We will have a test on graphing as well. Next up…..TIME!

FINAL WEEK: Jamboree Donations: A HUGE thank you to those you have donated items for our Ice Cream Social Basket! If you are planning on donating, please do so by Friday.

Week of: February 16, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: Our focus this week will be cause and effect. We will be talking about inventions and famous Illinois historians. This week our focus will be on John Deere, what CAUSED him to create his improved plow and what EFFECT it had on farming. **Students should be reading at least 25 minutes for homework every night!

Grammar: We will begin working on dictionary skills this week! With that, we will also be reviewing the grammar skills we have studied so far this year.

Writing: This week in writing, we will be taking the information we gathered on John Deere and writing an informational paper about him and his life.  

Science: This week we will be starting to talk about water and the water cycle! Towards the end of the week, please ask your child to share the water cycle song with you!

Math: We will continue to work with the three types of graphs: pictographs, bar graphs, and line plots.

New York

My name is Max. My family is going to New York on February 13th, 2016.We will see the Empire State Building and The Museum of National hHstory and the Metro Museum and see the biggest park in the world. It's right across from our apartment building in Central Park 🗽⚽️🏒 My favorite sport is soccer!

Newsletter--Week of 2/8

News from 3P
Week of: February 8, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: Our focus this week will continue to be questioning. Along with that, students will also be working (with other 3rd grade students) on theme and story elements of similar stories. Please ask your child about the story their class is reading and what the theme/moral is of the story. **Students should be reading at least 20 minutes for homework every night!

Grammar: We will continue to work on adverbs. We will also be working on reviewing some previous grammar lessons.  

Writing: This week in writing, we will be finishing up our planet papers. Students will then take the information they have gathered and start to put together a presentation that they will do in front of the class. Our focus will be presentation skills and good listening skills.  

Science: This week we will finish up our study of planets.  Test on Thursday. Items are coming home today to study. J

Math: This week we will continue working on graphing, specifically bar graphs, pictographs, and line plots. Help your student watch for graphs and see how they are used in real life!

Newsletter--Week of 2/1

News from 3P
Week of: February 1, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: Our focus this week will continue to be questioning. Students are getting really good at asking questions while reading a variety of passages.  Keep in mind, when a reader asks questions, it helps them to better understand the text. **Students should be reading at least 25 minutes for homework every night!

Grammar: We will begin working on adverbs. Help your child begin to use adverbs at home to make their stories more exciting! J

Writing: This week in writing, we will be choosing a planet and researching to find information about it. We will be using this information in the coming weeks to write an informational paper AND create a presentation about our planets!

Science: This week we will be continuing our study of planets.

Math: This week concludes fractions. We will finish up and review some fraction concepts and test on Wednesday. Graphing is up next! J
