Last Newsletter--Week of 5/23

Week of: May 23, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: Poetry will come to an end this week. We will be putting together our poetry anthology books. Their books are turning out to be fabulous! Thanks for the contribution of your notes for your child. If you still would like to send them in, let me know! ****Students should still be reading at least 25 minutes for homework every night!

Writing: This week in writing, we will be finalizing our narrative stories. J

Science: This week we will wrap up the study of conservation. SCARCE will be visiting tomorrow morning to help demonstrate the process of reusing and recycling! Thanks PTA!!

Math: Students will continue their study of measurement of mass. We will finish up with a quiz this week.

Newsletter--Week of 5/16

News from 3P
Week of: May 16, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: Poetry will continue this week. We will focus on Concrete and Picture Poems. We will also begin compiling our poems into poetry anthologies! These should be finished up sometime next week! ****Students should be reading at least 25 minutes for homework every night!

Writing: This week in writing, we will be continuing our narrative topics and be putting all our pieces together to write our last stories!  Students are required to do a few drafts and lots of additions! J

Science: This week we will focusing on natural resources. We will talk about renewable and nonrenewable resources. We will also be discussing recycling.

Math: Students will continue their study of measurement. We will review inches, ½ inches and ¼ inches. We will then move into metric liquid measurements.

Newsletter--Week of 5/9

Week of: May 9, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: Poetry will continue this week. We will focus on Acrostics, Haikus, Cinquain and the I Am poem. ****Students should be reading at least 20 minutes for homework every night!

Writing: This week in writing, we will be continuing our narrative topics and finish up the current story. We will be writing one more story before the end of the year! Students are required to do a few drafts and lots of additions! J

Science: This week we will finish up our study of Earth and its changes. We will be doing a study guide tomorrow and test on Friday.

Math: Students will be testing over distributive property, perimeter and area this week. From there, we will be jumping into our unit of measurement (inches, ½ inches and ¼ inches).

**SCRAPBOOKING If you are able to send in any of the following, I would appreciate it:
·         Letter Stickers
·         PHOTO Tape (this is what we need the most of!)
·         Skinny Scrapbooking Markers or Pens for writing about their time in third grade
·         ANYTHING that would be good for scrapbooking ( fun papers, die cuts)
·         White Cardstock Paper
·         If you would like to send in $$$ instead, I will be doing some shopping to purchase photo tape and other supplies.

Newsletter--Week of 5/2

News from 3P
Week of: May 2, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: This week students will be continuing with poetry and figurative language. We are excited to have Bill the Poet visit tomorrow to help us write some poetry of our own! Students will also continue to work with nonfiction short passages. With the nonfiction passages, students will be required to find the main idea of each passage and supporting details too! ****Students should be reading at least 25 minutes for homework every night!

Writing: This week in writing, we will be continuing our narrative topics and be putting all our pieces together to write our own stories!  Students are required to do a few drafts and lots of additions! J

Science: This week we will continue our study of Earth and its changes. We will focus on how volcanoes and earthquakes can change the way the Earth looks. We will also introduce the vocabulary: Erosion and Weathering.

Math: Students will continue with perimeter and area. We will also talk about the Distributive Property and how we can use it to solve for the area of a shape.
