Newsletter--Week of 3/21

News from 3P
Week of: March 21, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: This week students will continue to look at different types of narrative stories. We will also be reading some nonfiction short passages and doing comparing/contrasting. **Students should be reading at least 25 minutes for homework every night!

Grammar: We will be taking a quick look at what syllables are and how to break up words into multiple syllables.

Writing: This week in writing, we will be discussing different ways to begin our narrative stories. Please ask your child about their favorite way. We will also talk about dialogue and how you use it in our writing! Students will choose their first narrative piece and begin to practice our new ideas.  

Science: This week we will be finishing up the study of weather. Students will be reviewing and taking their test tomorrow.

Math: This week we will be finishing up our study of Time and taking the test tomorrow. Up after break…Geometry!

Newsletter 3/14

Week of: March 14, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: This week students will be reading a variety of narrative stories and finding out what narrative elements are. **Students should be reading at least 20 minutes for homework every night!

Grammar: We will be continuing to work on simple and compound sentences, and we will try to use them in our writing.

Writing: This week in writing, we will be brainstorming ideas for our first narrative piece. We will focus on a ‘slice’ of a story, meaning a small chunk of time.   

Science: This week we will be finishing up our storm projects and beginning to review for our weather test. Students will complete their study guides and prepare for the test NEXT week.

Math: This week we will be continuing to work on time. The focus will be elapsed time and reviewing what we have worked on so far! We will have a test next week.

**As we approach Spring Break, I'd love for some students to write about an activity that they do during the week off! These will be future blog posts as well!

Newsletter--Week of 3/7

News from 3P
Week of: March 7, 2016

Reading and Language Arts: Students will be working on writing about their famous inventor. **Students should be reading at least 25 minutes for homework every night!

Grammar: We will be working on simple and compound sentences. Students will also be incorporating these sentences into their inventor informational writing.

Writing: This week in writing, we will be finishing up our inventor writing.  

Science: This week we will be jumping into our weather projects. Students have chosen a storm of interest. They will be gathering information about these storms and finding pictures and information at home as well. We will be using this information in Library next week to create Green Screen presentations!

Math: This week we will continue our study of time. We will work with telling time to the hour, 15 min, 10 min, 5 min and 1 minute increments. We will also start working with elapsed time.
